The Apollo fountain depicted in the photograph of “the backyard" can be found at the Palace of Versailles. This spectacular fountain is of Apollo, the Sun God, which had become known as the emblem of the king. It was sculpted by Jean-Baptiste Tuby from 1668-1671 for Louis XIV. This fountain helped to solidify the King's reputation as "the Sun King". The scene we are shown here is of Apollo driving his chariot across the sky.
On a nice, sunny day in April I took this picture on the grounds of this chateau where Marie-Antoinette once lived. It looked like a great sculpture to take a picture of but the photograph came out even better than expected, which is the reason it looks so good on mugs and mouse pads. It is an image deserving of being placed on several different canvases.
